Doing Personal Fitness Willingly

One of the most overlooked aspects of life concerns our health. Millions of Americans make New Year’s resolutions that they don’t keep. Not only do they fail to keep them each year, but they generally end up adding on a few more pounds before the next January 1st rolls around. This is a terrible habit.

Whether you admit it or not, personal fitness is an essential part of our lives. If we really want to live well and feel great then we should consider getting physically fit. Whatever shape you might be in right now, you can improve it and get into better shape. We all have to start somewhere; you can start with a little motivation.

Everyone knows that working out and eating healthy leads to a healthier body. The better your diet is and the leaner your body, the more energy you are likely to have.

I can’t stress enough how good being in shape can make you feel. It’s a physical and emotional surge. Because when your personal fitness levels are up-to-par, you not only have more strength and energy, but you also have more confidence. You know that you look great and that you can do things like head down to the beach in a swimsuit or wear less clothing in public.

But when you’re overweight, you feel the need to cover up and hide from the world. This can often lead to depression and feelings of regret. NO MORE! It’s time to put more time and effort into your personal fitness schedule. Okay, this is where you can begin.

Pull out a sheet of paper and label it with each day of the week. Choose five of these days to exercise on. Many people choose to have the weekends off, but it’s up to you. Now, to get started you may want to try three days of cardio and two days of weight training, alternating days.

This regular personal fitness regimen with get your body in shape the way it’s supposed to be year-round. Always remember, being in great shape is NOT just a summer thing.

Another important thing to remember is that you need to eat right. A balance of carbs, proteins and vitamins should do the trick. Ideally, consuming vegetables in good batches is encouraged. Our body needs about 8 servings per day, so don’t be shy. For proteins, your best sources would be lean poultry and fish. As for carbs, go for brown rice, low-fat granola and grain breads. Personal diet not only concerns exercise, but also your diet. Without a healthy diet to accompany it, you might as well sit at the couch and munch on those potato chips.

Gratitude Helps Depression

Depression is the opposite of a state of thankfullness – it is a feeling of despondency that can be caused by inactivity, sickness (your own or that of a loved one), unemployment, any factor that sends the equilibrium of the mind into negative territory, a deteriorating economic state, a spouse or friend walking away from your life or even hormones. In other words, depression is what optomism is not.

Depression first chokes and then, if not reversed, goes on to universally obliterate positive thought. It sends the positive thouts and attitude process on a downward spiral, and places the depressed person in a zombie-like stupor. A depressed person slows down at work, does not enjoy family life, ignores or avoids his friends and relations and remains in a condition of persistant dissatisfaction. That was the mental position – a depressed person is negatively affected on the physical front too because negative thinking releases harmful chemicals into the body. Additionally, a depressed person suffers from fatigue and keeps imagining that he is affected by medical conditions.

Depression has to be repelled as quickly as possible. The first thing that a depressed man may do is to reach out for anti-depressant pills, which give a temporary relief from depression. But, depression usually stems out of a negative thought process and the best way to fight it is positive thinking. Yes, a depressed person needs to start thinking positively to ward off depression, and one of the greatest factors that can usher in positive thought is the feeling of gratitude.

Gratitude, or thankfulness, is an appreciation of a benefit received. Expressing gratitude makes one feel good and also tanks him up with positive vibes, and he begins to feel upbeat and full of encouraging energy. The body will be energized and actually healthier. The big question, however, is what to be grateful for and to whom to express our thanks.

Well, the answer to that question lies inside each of us. If we take a look at our own lives, we will find innumerable instances that we can be grateful for. For instance:

We can thank the lord for giving us a good night’s rest, for a great sunny day and for the birds chirping in our backyard. If we have friends to fall back on, we must thank them for just being there for us. If we are healthy, we can thank nature for giving us a robust body constitution; if we are unwell, we can thank the doctors for bringing us out of our condition. Thank life for not leaving you alone, high and dry!

These were just a few examples – sure enough, you will find tens of reasons to feel thankful towards Nature and towards your family/friends once you start introspecting your life. So, go right ahead and do that, and when you discover the little things that add that sparkle to your existence, humbly express your gratitude to them.

The gratitude expressed will promote positive thinking, which in turn will drive away the darkness that depression has burrowed into mind. Gratitude will drive away the fears planted by depression and sprinkle your mind with good cheer, and once you are cheerful, the world will be wonderful. Forever.

To Do: 1) Make a list of 10 things that you are thankful for “right now”. 2) Put up a sign reminding you to make another list every day. 3) Add to your list during the day every time you start having any negative thought. 4) Save your lists in a scrapbook. 5) Read your scrapbook if you are having trouble remembering anything you are thankful for.

Deadly Connection Between Cigarette Smoking And Back Pain

Cigarette smoking has been strongly linked to a number of serious health conditions like heart disease, emphysema, lung cancer, and other cardiovascular ailments. This habit is responsible for nearly 440,000 of more than 2.4 million premature deaths in the United States and is one of the leading causes of death around the world. Formaldehyde, arsenic, cadmium, benzene, and ethylene oxide are some of the substances that may cause cancer. These chemicals may accelerate the development of artherosclerosis, a disease that affects the large and medium arteries. This condition damages the blood vessels making them difficult to relax. Smoking may also cause the artery walls to stiffen the artery walls and cause pieces of plaque to clog some arteries. Once the plaque clogs the arteries, blood flow may be hampered and some nutrients may be deprived to some parts of the body which includes the spine and may lead to back pain.

Studies that link cigarette smoking to back pain are not conclusive and may need more studies to be verified. However, the message is clear, smokers who suffer from back pain have many reasons to kick this dreaded habit. Quitting smoking may not immediately relieve the pain, but it may help. Cutting the habit may also lower the risk of developing heart disease, various forms of cancer, and other diseases.
Individuals who have a hard time cutting the habit may use scientifically proven quit smoking products and alternative methods that are available. These products however cannot do all the work, the best and effective to quit smoking involves determination, discipline, and commitment to stop the habit permanently. Using these products and engaging in alternative methods can help smokers cut the habit by making them more comfortable and complacent to adjust to life without cigarettes. Become A Millionaire – Stop Smoking

So you want to be a millionaire? If you smoke or are thinking about it – I will give you at least $1 million reasons not to start. For the sake of discussion, I am going to use me as an example. I have smoked for over 20 years and frankly I enjoyed it. It wasn’t until I finally got it through my head about the health risks to me, my family and the rising costs that I finally decided to quit.

You all know or should know about the health risks and I will not rehash it. What I want to talk to you about is the financial impact. I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes per day and on a good Friday night out on the town it could sometimes be as much as 3 packs.

Ok.. here it comes. Two packs of cigarettes per day at an average cost of $3.50 per pack multiplied by seven days equals $49.00 per week or $2555.00 for one year. Now lets take a teenager at age 18 who starts to smoke and lets also assume they were to stop at age 65 on retirement which is 47 years. 47 years x $2555.00 = $120,085.00 spent on cigarettes at todays prices.

Now a hundred and twenty thousand dollars is in itself not enough to make you rich but you could buy some pretty nice stuff for that amount. The magic is in a little thing called compound interest. Assuming that instead of smoking – You took that same two packs per day or seven dollars and invested it in a mutual fund. Let’s also assume that you invested it in an index mutual fund which over the lifetime of the stock market has averaged 10% per year. After 47 years you would retire with $2,730,489.02. That almost $3 Million dollars. How is that for an incentive to not smoke?

What about the rest of us who have smoked for 20 plus years? A man or woman who quit at age 40 under the same scenario who save $282,615.51. Now that’s not a million dollars but it would still buy a pretty nice home. What is even more astounding is that these figures are based on today’s prices and don’t even account for inflation over the same amount of time.

Even if you are not interested in investing the money saved from smoking then think about this: $2555.00 applied one time each year to a $200,000.00 mortgage would cut 10 years off of a 30 year loan. You would be paying your home off in one-third the time.

The bottom line: If your health and family aren’t enough to make you stop – Think about why your not living next door to the rich and famous. I hope this gives you food for thought about all the extras in life you are giving up by smoking.
